Martin Lewis Ricks, 96 formerly of La Grande, died December 17 at a care center in Pendleton.
No services are planned at this time. He will be interred with his family in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral & Cremation Center.
Martin was born September 15, 1919 in La Grande to Lewis M. and Mabel H. (Christenson) Ricks who were descendants of the Ricks who started Ricks College in Utah.
Martin was raised and educated in La Grande and later moved to Pendleton where he has lived for the last several years.
While he was able he was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pendleton. During World War II he served with the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1943. He was handy with tools and worked as a laborer, mostly on farms and ranches.
Survivors include cousins, James Haydock of Sand Hollow, Idaho, Sandra and John Shannon of La Grande, Marianne and Ralph Bolin of La Grande, Sally and Don Giles of Riverside, California, Susan Salkield of Portland, Julie and Duane Stickney of La Grande, Greg and Anita Salkield of Gresham, Oregon.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mabel Ricks, sisters, Rachel Ricks, Eva Ricks and Jennie Newkirk.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Family History Center.
