Martha Doris Abbott

Martha Doris Fisher Abbott, 93, of La Grande, died Nov. 30 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Services will begin at

2 p.m. Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.

Martha was born Nov. 16, 1916, to George W. and Vivian (Thompson) Fisher in Taylor, Texas. She loved travel, crafts and needlework. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 75 years.

She married Everett Abbot in December 1947. They moved to La Grande in 1952. She was a bookkeeper and payroll clerk for the U.S. Navy in San Diego before marrying Everett, and later became the bookkeeper for the La Grande Livestock Auction in the 1950s. She also sold Tupperware and made wedding and all-occasion cakes. Martha had her funeral director's license for more than 30 years, and helped Everett in his work.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda and her husband, Paul Caverly, of La Grande; son, Dan and his wife, Linda Abbott, of Wilkenson, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
