Marjorie Lynn McClure, 71, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and formerly of La Grande, died April 29 after a long illness. There was no services but her ashes were spread in California, La Grande and Elgin.
Mrs. McClure was born April 17, 1933, to Lynn Edward and Etha Sarah Huffman Hill in La Grande. She attended grade school in Elgin until 1944, when the family moved to a farm on Cove Avenue. She attended Willow Elementary School and graduated from La Grande High School in 1951.
She attended Eastern Oregon College and Oregon State College in Corvallis. She married Patrick McClure on Oct. 14, 1955, just before he entered the military. The couple lived in Illinois, Japan, and several places in California.
She taught junior high school home economics and English in Sun Valley, Calif., for 24 years and became a mentor to beginning teachers. After her retirement in 1992 the couple bought Stang Manor in La Grande which they ran as a bed and breakfast until 2002 when they returned to California.
She was a member of a number of La Grande women's groups, including PEO. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cooking and entertaining guests. Her many friends called her a delight to be with.
Survivors include her husband of Thousand Oaks and soon to be of La Grande; children, James Marcus McClure and Charles Patrick McClure, both of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Suzanne Elizabeth McClure of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Fredrick Huffman Hill of La Grande and Lloyd Hill of Boise.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association, 3212 Hwy 30, La Grande.
