Marjorie Lois "Marge" Karnowski was born July 12, 1930 at Marysville, Kansas to parents, Chauncey Laverne and Lois (Chroninger) Habig. She died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Sun Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 77.
Marge was raised in Marysville and attended nursing school until she had to drop out to help take care of her mother and younger siblings. She married Leo Charles Karnowski Sr. on January 19, 1952 at Marysville. They moved to Hermiston in 1962. Marge worked at Hermiston Drug from 1981 to 1992 where she met and made many life long friends. Marge joined the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary in 1990, was past president for 3 years, state board member of the Oregon Association Area VIII 2000 to 2007. She is a life member of the Eagles Lodge, Marge was a member of the Hermiston First Christian Church, was the secretary/treasurer of the Union Pacific Employees Club from June 2001 to June 2007, and was a long time bowler at Desert Lanes. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, traveling and any new adventure. Marge loved her Wednesday Canasta Group and all her dear friends, new and old. Marge was a special person that always put others needs above her own.
She was loved by many and will be truly missed. We love you mom and give everyone our love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Karnowski Sr.; son, Jeffry Lynn "Jeff" Karnowski; 2 brothers, Jack and Kenny Habig.
She is survived by son, Leo Karnowski of Irrigon, OR; daughter, Kathi Karnowski and her husband, Fred Beickel of La Grande, OR; daughter-in-law, Kerry Barr of Hermiston, OR; step-mother, Lola Habig of Marysville, KS; brother, Dennis and his wife Diana Habig of Marysville, KS; sister, Patricia Bradley of New Boston, TX; 1 grandson, Kory James Karnowski of Hermiston, OR; 1 great-granddaughter, Celeste Karnowski of Hermiston, OR; step-brother, Duane and wife Lois Crosier of Seneca, KS; step-sister, Judy and husband Jerry Ford of Platte City, MO; 2 step grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will follow the service at Desert Lanes Bowling Alley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary or to the Hermiston First Christian Church.
