Marion Lyman Huff

October 25, 1921 — June 16, 2004

Marion Lyman Huff, 82, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at his home in Woodburn, OR. He was born October 25, 1921 to Lyman Huff and Gladys (Neukirchner) Huff in La Grande, OR.

He attended schools in LaGrande, Eastern Oregon College and University of Oregon, where he lettered in basketball and always remained loyal to his Ducks. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the O, a brotherhood of U of O lettermen. He had a lifetime passion for sports, as a player, coach and official. He served on the Board of Directors for the OSAA.

He married Elizabeth Snider on December 25, 1943 in La Grande and had three children, Catharine, David and Susan.

His career in education began at Crook County HS in Prineville, before moving to Dayville as teacher and Supt of Schools. He spent three years as principal and Supt of Siletz Schools before moving to Toledo High School for 33 years.

In 1972 he married his present wife, Betty. Together they enjoyed Portland Trailblazer basketball, some travel, good friends and family.

He was a Life member of the Toledo Elks Lodge #1664, where he was Exalted Ruler in 1966. He served as District Deputy in 87/88 and was a member of the National Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; Aunt Marie Stephens of Bremerton, WA; sister-in-law, Ella Huff of Gooding, Idaho, a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Roy Gray of Walterville, son and daughter-in-law David Huff of Toledo and Betty Huff of Bend, and daughter and son-in-law Susie and Chuck Roeser of Toledo. A step-son and daughter-in-law Onia and Allyn Toering of Portland. Grandchildren, Kyle Gray, Bradley Purdom, Matthew Purdom, Debbie Stilwell, Kevin Lowery, Ashley Pagsolingan, Cori Kelley and Wendy Smith and ten great grandchildren.

Daniels Chapel in La Grande, OR is in charge of arrangements. The dedication of the grave will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in La Grande on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Toledo Elks Lodge on Friday, June 25, 2004 at noon. Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Marion, to a charity of their choice.
