Marion "Pat" Orland Fielding

Marion Orland "Pat" Fielding, 87, of Summerville, died July 9 at his home. His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11206 S. McAlister Road, Island City. A viewing for family and friends will run from 6 to 8 tonight at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St. in La Grande, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.

Graveside services will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1401 S. Union St. in Kennewick.

Pat was born July 27, 1923, in Ririe, Idaho. His parents were Nephi Fielding and Zenetta Sophia McMurtrey Fielding.

He was raised in Shelley, Idaho, where he graduated from high school.

Pat married Faye Jackson in March 1947. She died in April 1987. He was married to Edith Spicher. They were later divorced. In November 1998, he married Delores Brown Severe.

Pat served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He provided aircraft repair and logistical support.

His lifelong occupation was farming. He homesteaded a farm in Powell, Wyo., for 10 years. The family then moved to Thomas, Idaho, where he continued to farm until moving to Kennewick in 1974. Pat lived in the Kennewick and Pasco areas until 1996, before retiring to Summerville.

Pat raised and trained Haflinger carriage horses. He was a "teamster" on a three-month-long wagon train from Omaha, Neb., to Salt Lake City.

Pat was a cowboy poet and entertained at many community events.

He had a fabulous sense of humor and a story for every occasion, family members said. He loved all kinds of sports and games, and was very competitive in chess, cards, golf and any sport.

Pat was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a bishop in Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; his children and their spouses, J. Alan and Deanne Fielding of Touchet, Wash., Jill Fielding of Gig Harbor, Wash., Shannon and Lowell Barber of Pasco, Daniel S. and Christine Fielding of Midvale, Utah, and Brian J. and Viviane Fielding of Brazil; his step-children and their spouses, Randy and Rosemary Severe, Robin and Cindy Severe, Curtis and Debbie Severe, Stewart and Michelle Severe, Monty and Crystal Severe, Clint Severe and Shawn and Evalee Severe; two sisters, Frances Louise Cox of Mattawa, Wash., and Twila Beasley of Rupert, Idaho; 39 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nephi and Sophia; and his siblings, Mary Helen Jensen, Leslie Nephi Fielding, Harold Fielding, Guelda Christensen, Melvin Fielding, Vera Fielding, Verella Jorgenson, Ralph Fielding and Dee Fielding.
