Marion Lucille Berry

February 17, 1922 — December 3, 2010

Marion Lucille Driskell Berry, 88, formerly of Union County, died Dec. 3 at the Jennings McCall Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jennings McCall Center in the Mount Jefferson Room, 2300 Masonic Way in Forest Grove. Rev. C. Eugene Sabin, pastor emeritus of the First Christian Church in Forest Grove, will officiate. Lodge rites will be under the direction of the Eastern Star Lodge in Forest Grove.

Family burial rites will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at the Summerville Cemetery with her sons-in-law, Charles Wilson and Ric Jones, conducting. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Feb, 17, 1922, to Anna and George Driskell in La Grande.

She married George Martin Berry April 30, 1939.

Lucille and her husband farmed in La Grande for several years. They lived in Pilot Rock and Helix before moving to Portland in 1965. Lucille worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Helix and as a clerk for Burlington Northern Railroad in Portland. She retired in 1980 and moved to the Hermiston area. She moved to Jennings McCall in 2000.

Lucille was an avid square dancer. She was a member of the Square Knots in Hermiston and the Rocket Squares of Pilot Rock. She was a seamstress and cook. She was active in the Eastern Star Hermiston Lodge, serving as Worthy Matron in 1984.

She is survived by her five daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Charles Wilson of Hermiston, Karon and Ray McAlavy of Ukiah, A. Jane Berry-Eddings and Dr. Dennis Eddings of Salem, G. Christine and Ric Jones of Hermiston and Margaret N. Hudson and her companion, Bobby, of Blaine, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1987; sisters, Opal Graham of Wallowa and The Dalles and Mary Connor of La Grande; and brothers, George William Driskell of La Grande, Arthur "Ted" Driskell of Iowa and Harold Tingay of Seattle.
