Margaret E. Williams, 91, formerly of La Grande, died March 8 in Kennewick. Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will precede the service, from noon to 1 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel.
Margaret was born May 3, 1918, in La Grande to Wilbur and Stella (Hunter) Zurbrick. She was raised on the family farm near Island City. She attended Moss Chapel and Island City grade schools and graduated from La Grande High School in 1935.
While attending Oregon State College she met her future husband, Ross Williams. They married in February 1939 after he graduated with a degree in forestry. Ross went to work for the U.S. Forest Service in the Olympic National Forest, and when they were first married they lived in various guard stations and other remote locations. During the winter of 1942-1943 they lived with their infant son in a logging camp accessible only by railroad.
The family moved several times, living in Detroit, Dufur, Parkdale, Enterprise, Baker and Portland, and for several years in Vancouver, Wash. After raising her children, Margaret worked for a dentist and later a roofing company in the Portland/Vancouver area. Margaret and Ross moved to the Tri-Cities in 1985.
Margaret and her husband were longtime members of the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver and later enjoyed their years at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland, Wash. After retirement they became snowbirds and spent several winters in Yuma, Ariz.
Survivors include her children, Woody, Joyce, Peggy, Carol and Roger; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and her brother, Harold Zurbrick, in 2000.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity, 313 Wellsian Way, Richland, Wash. 99352.
