Margaret Jones

Margaret Jones, 71, of La Grande died February 8, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland after a short illness. At her request there will be no memorial service.

Mrs. Jones was born May 6, 1934, to W.C. "Jiggs" Laird and Reba Gray-Laird. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1952. Mrs. Jones lived overseas for many years. She returned to the United States in 1972. She worked for the US Coast Guard out of Seattle until she retied in 1996. After retiring, she returned to live in La Grande to be closer to her family.

Mrs. Jones enjoyed golf, bridge, playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Watne of Pacific City, Mitchell Schneiter of West Linn and Heidi Silsby of Taipei, Taiwan; nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a sister-in-law, Nancy Laird of Pullman, Washington. A brother, Norman P. Laird, died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Madeline Hedden Golf Scholarship or the Blue Mountain Humane Association.
