Margaret Jean Chandler, age 79, of La Grande, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at her home.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Interment will be held at the Island City Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Margaret was born on April 22, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Furguson) McClure in La Grande. She attended La Grande schools and on September 20, 1939 she married John Chandler in Boise, Idaho. They made their home in La Grande for a few years before moving to Tacoma, Washington. During World War II she worked at the McCord Air force Base and later for Penny's. When they moved to Woodland, Washington, she worked at Lama Glass Fishing Rod Manufacturers. They returned to La Grande on July 4, 1978.
They enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska and watching baseball, football and basketball. She loved to go fishing, flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great cook and liked to bake.
Survivors include her husband, John Chandler of La Grande; son, Mike Chandler of Gig Harbor, Washington; daughter, Janice Chandler Aschoff of Vancouver, Washington; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Mason of Union; brother, F. "Bud" McClure of Forest Grove; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A brother, Henry McClure and sisters, Lulu Counsell, Leona Kruger, and Nell Schmitke preceded her in death.
