Manford Jiles Morris

Manford Jiles Morris, age 89, of La Grande, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at a local care facility. A funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mr. Morris was born on November 11, 1918, the son of Mike and Agnes (Meroney) Morris in Alicel. He graduated from La Grande High School and on August 31, 1941 he married Wilma May Burch in La Grande. They farmed in the valley for many years until age forced his retirement. Wilma preceded him in death on September 1, 2006.

Mr. Morris was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in La Grande and served in many capacities there. He was a member of the Wheat League and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, making tools, hunting and fishing. His greatest hobby was farming.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Miller & Daryl Wakefield of Portland, Carolyn and Jeff Jeffers of Centralia, Washington, Mina Ouellette of Vancouver, Washington and Joyce and Steve Shea of Broadbrook, Connecticut; sisters, Della Ehrenburg of Florham Park, NJ and Phyllis Smith in North Powder; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Judd Morris, Raymond Morris and Mason Morris and sister, Lavene Case.

Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mr. Morris to the Youth for Christ program.
