Madelene is the last of a true early Oregon pioneer family. She was born November 19, 1914 at home near Dry Creek School, Summerville, OR on the family farm which was homesteaded by her paternal grandfather in 1864. Madelene was the youngest of six children born to Burt M. and Bessie (Sanderson) Oliver. Her paternal great grandparents, E.T. and Catharine Oliver and her grandfather, H. W. Oliver crossed the plains in 1864 in what was known as the "Oliver Train", arriving in the Grand Round Valley that fall and settled close to Summerville in the Dry Creek area. Her grandfather had the first sawmill in Union County. He also had the first pine needle factory where pine oil was extracted and sold for medicinal usage and he was instrumental in building the first road over Tollgate to Weston which later became Oregon Hwy 204. Her paternal grandmother, Mariah L. (Burt) Oliver arrived from the east in about 1879 to marry H. W. Oliver who was a widower with 7 children. They had 3 other children, one of them was Burt Oliver, Madelene's father.

Her maternal grandparents, Matthew & Euphemia (Young) Sanderson were also early settlers. Matthew having come from Scotland to Canada where he married & then to Montana and to Oregon around 1886 settling first in Flora, OR where Bessie Oliver was born and then in the Grand Round Valley where they established the Sanderson Springs Farm around 1890.

Madelene graduated at 16 from Imbler High School and then moved to Walla Walla, WA to attend St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. She married M. Dale Shore in 1934 and in 1940 moved to Seattle, WA, where she resided until 1997 when moving to Hillsboro, OR to be closer to her daughter & family. Madelene had a career in retail banking retiring from West Side Federal S & L in 1974. She than continued working for Pacific First Federal for several more years. She was a 25 year member of the Order of The Eastern Star and attended Seaview Methodist Church in West Seattle until moving to Oregon. Madelene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, her flower beds, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren & visiting with friends.

She is survived by daughter & son-in-law, Judith and Will Spady, three grandchildren, Michael & Patrick Kirlin & Shannon Wright and two great granddaughters Shaylee Wright and Sophia Kirlin & several nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Dale, brothers Emery, Harold, Lawrence and Howard and sister Lema. She will be greatly missed by her family.
