Lulu Belle Counsell

February 25, 1912 — December 12, 2002

Lulu Belle Counsell, age 89, of La Grande, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at a local care facility. At her request there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.


Mrs. Counsell was born on February 28, 1912, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Furgason) McClure at Ladd Canyon, near La Grande. She attended schools in La Grande and on September 23, 1930 she married Harley Counsell in Boise, Idaho. They ranched for years in the Ladd Canyon area and later moved to La Grande where they bought and managed the Caroline Apartments for ten years. Mr. Counsell preceded her in death in 1966. She was proud of the fact that later in her life she went back to school and became an x-ray technician and worked at St. Joseph Hospital. She loved the local to fish and the local wildlife.


Survivors include her grandchildren, Glenn Counsell of Hermiston, Terry Counsell of Hermiston and Jody Thompson of La Grande; great grandchildren, Justin Counsell of Hermiston, Nickie Counsell of Hermiston, Krista Counsell of Hermiston and Vicky Thompson of La Grande; great great grandchildren, Kilee and Taylor; sisters, Gertrude Mason of Union and Margaret Chandler of La Grande; brother, Francis McClure of Forest Grove; and other relatives and friends. Her son, Eugene Counsell preceded her in death in 1990. Two sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
