Lovell Howard

January 17, 1919 — April 1, 2004

Lovell Howard, age 85, of La Grande, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sarah Morningstar Stanton officiating. Private interment will be held at the Grandview Mausoleum. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Howard was born on January 17, 1919, the daughter of George and Ina Mae (Griffin) Farquhar in Cashmere, Washington. She graduated from high school in Pasco, Washington and in 1936 married Robert Wesley Howard. They moved to La Grande in the early 1940's where they later owned and operated the La Grande Fruit Company (now Don and Larry's Distributing) until 1975.

They were both very active in the community and enjoyed traveling together throughout the country. Mrs. Howard was a member of the La Grande Country Club, the Elks Club, Order of Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi. For many years she helped with the Miss La Grande Pageant and was asked to be a judge for the Miss America Pageant. She was an avid golfer, winning the Ladies Club Championship in several years.

Survivors include her children, Robert Lee Howard of La Grande, Candy and Bob Brooks of La Grande and Michael and Kolleen Howard of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren;numerous great grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death in September of 1991. Five brothers and one sister also preceded her.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Howard to the Blue Mountain Humane Society in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7Street, La Grande, OR 97850
