Lorraine Twidwell

Lorraine Twidwell, age 77 of Island City, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at her home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Island City Cemetery with Pastor Vernon Slippy of the Grande Ronde Community Church officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street.

Lorraine Twidwell was born on August 14, 1927, the daughter of Neil Anthony and Nora (Brown) Novack in The Dalles, Oregon. Mrs. Twidwell attended school in The Dalles and later graduated from The Dalles High School. On December 2, 1947, Lorraine married Marvin Twidwell in La Grande. Together the couple raised three children and Lorraine worked for the La Grande School District as their head cook before later retiring after years of employment. She was a member of the Grande Ronde Community Church and was active in 4-H, a leader of the Clover Leaf Circle, the La Grande Mavericks Club and the Appaloosa Club. Lorraine enjoyed bread making, her bible study group, teaching her grandchildren as they started school, watching Atlanta Braves baseball games and most of all spending time with her family and friends.


Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Marvin Twidwell of Island City; daughters, Karen Smith of La Grande and Kathie and son-in-law Bob Grove of Island City; daughter-in-law Juli Twidwell of The Dalles, Oregon; grandchildren, Kristi Ritchie, Jennifer Smith, Stephanie Twidwell, Ranay Twidwell, Zeb Grove and Sam Grove; great-grandchildren, Ashlee Brasure, Austin Ritchie and Kyndra Ritchie; sister Neila Dahlback of Massachusetts. Her parents, son, Kenny Twidwell, son-in-law Jim Smith and sister Emma Jean Novack all preceded her in death.
