Loren "Bud" Dale Widell

July 30, 1928 — May 27, 2011

Loren Dale "Bud" Widell, 82, of Elgin, died May 27 at a local care center in La Grande.

His graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Elgin Cemetery. Dinner will follow at the Elgin Grange Hall.

Bud was born July 30, 1928, to John and Ethel Widell in Elgin. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1946. He played baseball for the high school and for the Elgin town team. On April 8, 1948, Bud married Marcella McDaniel in Elgin.

Bud loved hunting and fishing and picking mushrooms and huckleberries. He was an avid reader of Western books and loved to square and round dance. He was a member of the Indian Valley Paraders Square Dance Club for more than 20 years. He worked in the lumber mills and then was employed for Globe Furniture as a carpet-layer for 23 years. He also volunteered at the Elgin Food Bank for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nova Jean Hallgarth; and brother-in-law, Myron Hallgarth.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcella; daughters, Marla Luse of Elgin and Bonita Widell of Elgin; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elgin High School Baseball, P.O. Box 68, Elgin 97827.
