Lois Irene Lay, 92, of Boise and formerly of Union, died suddenly of complications from a stroke Sunday in Boise. Funeral service will be at 10 am Wednesday at the Ginger Creek LDS ward, 11918 W. Ustick Road, Boise. Friends may call to visit with the family at the church from 9 to 9:45 am prior to the service. Interment will take place following a short graveside service in the Union Cemetery at 3 pm Wednesday.
Lois was the daughter of Charlie Lewis Deardorff and Minnie Meyer. She was born on June 14, 1914, in Baker City. Her early childhood years were spent in Durkee and Vancouver, Washington. She graduated from Baker High School. Lois married Guild Duel Lay April 1, 1938. They lived on a ranch near Medical Springs until moving to Union in the early 1970s. After open-heart surgery on her 87th birthday, Mrs. Lay determined she could no longer live alone and moved to Boise to live with her son.
Lois joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 16, 1969. She received her temple endowments on July 6, 1982, in the Seattle Temple. She was sad to leave Union and her many friends, but loved being in Boise surrounded by her grandchildren, who lived within three miles of her and visited frequently. She quickly made friends.
She is survived by her sons, Denzel of Chicago and Charles Hindman and his wife, Jeanette of Boise; seven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
