Lois Eilene Ives

January 1, 1919 — January 3, 2011

Lois Eilene Ives, 92, of Elgin, died Jan. 3 at a local care center in La Grande. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Lois was born Jan. 1, 1919, one of 10 children born to Harold and Winnifred (Parr) Lamb at Elgin, N.D. She grew up on her family's grain and cattle ranch until her marriage to Clifford Harlan Ives.

Lois could play almost any instrument, and was expert at playing the guitar, piano and mandolin. She loved to write music and enjoyed yodeling. She also enjoyed baking. Those who knew her say she had a deep abiding faith in and love of God.

Survivors include her daughter and spouse, Janet and Wes Fischer of Elgin; siblings and their spouses, Patty and Vic Moffett of Roseburg and Jack and Jan Lamb of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents; daughter, Dorothy Jean Ives; grandson, Clifford Dean Sproul; siblings, Roy Lamb and Bernice Ives; and four sisters, ages 9 months to 11 years, who were killed in a tornado that devastated the family farm. Lois and her sister were visiting their grandparents and escaped. Lois' brother also survived, but was flung about by the tornado and found himself one-half mile from home in a ditch of water when he regained consciousness.
