Lillian Ellen Brannen

January 23, 1925 — October 15, 2005

Ellen Brannen left her earthly life at her home in Boise on October 15, 2005. Ellen was born on January 23, 1925, in Buhl, Idaho to Edward D. and Myrtle B. Worley Smalley. As a child she attended Buhl, Riverton and Lucerne grade schools, and Buhl High School, graduating in 1943. She worked as a telegrapher for Union Pacific Railroad until November 1945. She married her high school sweetheart, John Brannen, in Buhl, Idaho. They attended the University of Idaho and Boise Junior College. Together they also spent summers working as fire spotters on lookout tower in Idaho.

Ellen and John resided in Boise, Moscow, and Twin Falls, Idaho, Tuscan, Arizona and La Grande, Oregon and returned to Boise where John Retired .

Ellen Brannen was a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family, camping and traveling. She and John were active with The Knots and Squares dance group. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She leaves her daughters, Delpha Bush of Boise, Deborah Chandler of La Grande, Oregon and Valerie Coomes of Albany, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Steven, Edward and Miriam Bush, John and Keith Chandler, Branden and Bethany Snowberger, and Melody Mackey; seven great - grandchildren; sisters, Opal Rathbun, Jean Schaer, and Marjorie Artz; and brothers, Roy and Bob Smalley.

Her parents, her husband, John, and brothers, Fred and Norman Smalley, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to Horizon Hospice, or Good Samaritan Care Facility in Boise.
