Lewis R. Porter, age 83, of Plummer, Idaho and formerly of Summerville died October 28 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Burial was at the Summerville Cemetery on November 1, 2003 with Pastor Rob Collins officiating.

Mr. Porter was born on August 17, 1920 to Fred and Bertha Rose Porter in Athens, Ohio. He married Hazel Neiman on September 6, 1948 in Lewiston, Idaho. She died in 2002.

Mr. Porter served in the Army in the 3rd Tank Battalion. He received the European Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. During the war, he found papers during a search of a barn in a safe that showed all the gun placements in the Siegfried line. He enjoyed camping and hiking and was an avid rock collector.

Survivors include his children, Twila Speer of Pilot Rock, Hazel Dewey of Emmett, Idaho, Loma Wagoner of Summerville, Lanaia Simon of Spokane and Ron Pfiefer of Craigmont, Idaho; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and a brother, Fred Porter of Bellevue, Ohio. His wife, five sisters and two brothers died earlier.
