Lewis Jack Evans

Lewis Jack Evans, 80, of Florence and formerly of La Grande, died June 8. No services are planned locally.

Jack was born Aug. 7, 1928, to Lewis E. and Frieda Evans in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School and then from Oregon State University with a bachelor of arts degree in science. He worked with the FDA in Seattle, Washington, D.C., Kansas City and in Denver. Jack retired in 1982 and settled in Florence.

Jack married Barbara Dawson June 6, 1948, in La Grande. He loved to hunt deer and elk and catch fish and crab on Siuslaw Bay. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, being on his boat and traveling in his motorhome with his wife, Barb.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Evans; children, Randie Smith of Paola, Kan., Terri Speece and her husband, Peter, of Green Valley, Ariz., Kimberly Stevens and her husband, Kirk, of Westminster, Colo.; and siblings, Jean Ginsey and her husband, Denver, of Seattle, and Jim D. Evans and his wife, Charlene, of La Grande; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a cancer foundation.
