Leone Isabel Sutton

November 21, 1916 — August 22, 2003

Leone Isabel Sutton, formerly of Hermiston, died August 22, 2003 at her care center home in Cove at the age of 86.


Mrs. Sutton was born in Minnehaha County near the small town of Garretson, South Dakota to Maude Isabel and John Harrison Robbins on November 21, 1916. She was the third of four children.


Mrs. Sutton graduated from high school in LeMars, Iowa in 1934. She married Cecil Sutton, her husband of 56 years, on March 18, 1935 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They moved to Pendleton, Oregon in 1943 with their two daughters and in 1951 they moved to Hermiston.


Mrs. Sutton was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hermiston, UMW, Ladies of the GAR, AARP, Piecemakers Quilting Group and a past volunteer at the Good Samaritan Care Center. She loved swimming and earned for 50 mile Red Cross pin. She also loved poetry, traveling on senior citizen trips, quilting, couponing, music and concerts, her church, family and friends. She was a homemaker all of her married life until going to work in a laundry to put her daughter through college.


Survivors include her daughter, Donna Hartley of Vista, California; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Corky Hunt of La Grande; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Don McCall of La Grande and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and her husband.

Committal and interment will be at the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, Oregon on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Burns Mortuary, 685 Hermiston Avenue in Hermiston.

Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 191 E. Gladys Avenue, Hermiston, Oregon 97838.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that in Leone's memory you do something to brighten the day of an elderly person. It was the small acts of kindness and caring that sustained Leone and her family through the difficult times.
