Leona Marie Steen

Leona Marie Steen, age 89, of La Grande, died September 18, 2009 at a local care facility. At her request there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.

Leona was born on August 10, 1920, the daughter of Paul William and Laura (Quin) Barber in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She came to Oregon from South Dakota in 1971. She worked as office clerk for Adult and Family Services until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose of Seaside. She enjoyed sewing and going to the Senior Center.

Survivors include her son, Larry Howard Steen of Hillsboro; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; best friend, JoAnne Nelson of La Grande and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Rush in May 2009 and sisters, LoReign Barber and Vera Strom.

Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Senior Center or the Arthritis Association.
