Leland LeRoy Snyder, 72, of La Grande, died Dec. 17 at his residence. A private family service was held at his home.
The family will celebrate his life with a potluck gathering at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Eagles Lodge.
Leland was born Jan. 18, 1938, to Leo A. and Marie A. (Kruse) Snyder at Fairbury, Neb. He lived in Nebraska and Oregon and attended La Grande High School.
Leland served with the La Grande Fire Department for 26 years, and became the captain. He was a skilled general contractor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and camping. He loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Leland was affiliated with the fraternal organizations, Elks and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; their children and spouses, Shar and Las Lequerica of La Grande, Brett and Karen Snyder of Kent, Wash., Tony and Nancy Snyder of Winnemucca, Nev., Danette and Jim Snyder-Bright of La Grande, and Larry and Brandi Snyder of Winnemucca; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Jeanne and Darrel Clark of Montana, Cleo Snyder of La Grande, Joyce and John Spencer of Pendleton and Larry and Judy Snyder of Cove; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sheryl Barnes; sister, Betty Larkin; and brother, Harold Snyder.
