Lawrence "Larry" Edmond Waliser

January 15, 1923 — August 26, 2007

Lawrence "Larry" Waliser, age 84, of La Grande, died August 26, 2007 at the Grande Ronde Hospital from Lung Cancer. A private family service will be held and committal will be at the Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Larry was born to George and Mary Waliser on January 1923 in Sykeston, ND. In 1934 his family settled in Milton Freewater. At the age of 17 he joined the CCC Camp at Heppner. In 1943 he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS White Plains Air Craft Carrier, serving in the South Pacific in five invasions including the Battle of Leyth Gulf, Philippines. After his honorable discharge in 1946 he owned a cab company in Milton Freewater.

In June of 1952 he married Barbara Knight. They later moved to La Grande and was employed by his father-in-law at Knight Tire Service, later purchasing the company and making it Larry's Tire Service. He retired in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Waliser of La Grande, daughters, Sandra Brown of La Grande, Sheila Shark of Nampa, Idaho, Georgia Van Arsdale of Island City and Michelle Waliser of La Grande; brother, Jim Waliser of Milton Freewater; sister, June Lehman of Colorado; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by six brothers.
