Laura Ann Bruce

June 27, 1942 — April 11, 2011

Laura Ann Guynes Bruce, 68, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and formerly of La Grande, died April 11. A memorial service was held April 29 at Rhema Bible Church Chapel in Oklahoma. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande.

She was born June 27, 1942, to Melrose M. Guynes and Zella May Pierce Guynes at Fowler, Calif.

She attended Eastern Oregon University and was a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center at Broken Arrow in 1986. She also graduated from the Broken Arrow Domata School of Missions.

She helped to establish Abundant Life Church in La Grande. She was the assistant chaplain of Madera County (California) Correction Facility in 1987. She started working with Women's Aglow International in 1988. She was the Central California prison coordinator and led workshops for women, as she was called to prison ministry, in several states.

In 1990, she helped to found Spirit of Liberty Ministries. Her mission work took her to Guatemala, Mexico, Spain, Italy and Belgium. From 2001 to 2010, she was in the Chaplain Corps at David L. Moss County Jail in Tulsa, Okla.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Prince and her husband, Linwood, and their two children; sons, Brent Salyer and his wife, Dove, and their three children, and Kyle Bruce and his wife, Brenda, and their four children. She is also survived by her mother, Zella Gipson of La Grande; sister, Lana J. Waite; and brother, Melvin G. Guynes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll W. Bruce, who died May 20, 2010.
