Larry James Lampkins

January 2, 1949 — August 17, 2009

Larry James Lampkins, 49, of Haines, Alaska, and formerly of Enterprise, died Aug. 17 in Ellensburg, Wash., at the home of his daughter, Kari Gage. A celebration of his life was held Aug. 22 at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise. Private burial will take place at the Enterprise Cemetery at a later date. Steward & Williams Tribute Center of Ellensburg, Wash., was in charge of the arrangements, including cremation according to Larry's wishes.

Larry was born Jan. 2, 1949, to Jim and Virginia Lampkins in Enterprise. The family lived in Enterprise until the late 1950s, when they moved to Merrill and finally on to Lakeview.

Larry graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967 and attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland and Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls.

He joined the U.S. Army in December 1968 and spent a tour of duty in Korea, receiving an honorable discharge and returning home in July 1971.

Larry moved to the Rogue Valley and worked in the radio and television field for several years, working in a variety of capacities including announcer and operations manager. During this time he met Krista Wilson. They married in Medford on Oct. 27, 1979.

Larry began working for his father-in-law, Dean Wilson, in the family's logging business in Central Point. During this time, three children were born to Larry and Krista - Kari Aynne, James Dean and Lacy Jean.

In 1990 they moved both families and the logging business to Alaska. After several years and the demise of the logging industry, they settled in Haines, Alaska. Larry worked for Petro Marine as a fuel truck driver and eventually started his own janitorial services business, which he operated until shortly before his death.

He is survived by his wife, Krista (Wilson) Lampkins of Haines; daughter and son-in-law, Kari Aynn (Lampkins) Gage and Lloyd Gage of Ellensburg; son, James Dean Lampkins of Haines; and daughter, Lacy Jean Lampkins of Ellensburg; parents, Jim and Virginia Lampkins of Baker City; sister, Linda (Lampkins) Noble of Baker City; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Anna Gake of Joseph and Buell and Ellen Lampkins of La Grande; and a nephew, Gary Noble of Lolo, Mont.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to any charity, or honor him simply by treating friends and neighbors with respect and honesty as Larry always did.
