Lanna Jo Dawson, 56, of Clatskanie and formerly of Elgin, died Feb. 11 at her home. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel in Baker City. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.
Lanna was born Jan. 5, 1955, to Roger and Arleta (Wirth) Turner in Baker and grew up on a cattle ranch in Medical Springs. At the age of 16, she moved with her family to Baker, where she graduated from Baker High School. She then attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, earning an associate's degree in animal husbandry in 1977.
Lanna married Dick Johnson and in 1978 had a son, Zeb, who preceded her in death. In 1983 she married Gary Dawson, and they had two children together. They lived for a long time in Elgin, where Lanna worked as a driver for Bowman Trucking.
Lanna loved the outdoors and animals and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She never missed her annual camping trip or cattle drives with friends. She will make "cowboy heaven" a much more fun place, her family said.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Dawson; children, Tara Dawson of Eugene and JV Dawson of La Grande; sister and brother-in-law, Kellie and Rock of Albany; brother and sister-in-law, Bret and Shelia of Ontario; mother, Arleta Turner of Lebanon; a nephew and three nieces; and one grandson.
Memorial donations may be made to the MS Society of Oregon, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland 97209.
