La Velle Mae Myers, age 88, of La Grande, died September 19, 2005 at a local care facility. A memorial service will be announced later by Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mrs. Myers was born on October 25, 1916 in Nolan, Oregon, the youngest of eleven children born to Ulyssis and Sarah (Dunn) Shipley. Her father worked for the railroad and they moved around and she was educated in Minam and Stanfield. She lived in Stanfield, Mt. Emily Lumber Camp and La Grande. On April 22, 1939 she married Orvalle L. Myers. She enjoyed camping, cooking, country music, family, her roses, and squirrels. She collected salt and pepper shakers and loved her dogs and being with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Summerville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Sharon Mortenson of Grants Pass, Lonnie Myers of Summerville and Joyce Leonard of La Grande; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Nina Blye of Kennewick, Washington; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by 9 siblings and her husband.
