Kenneth Arthur Rogers, age 75, of La Grande, died February 5, 2010 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
Kenneth was born on August 26, 1934, the son of Arthur B. and Selma (McMurren) Rogers in La Grande. He married Sylvia Elliott in 1950 at Payette, Idaho. His family included four daughters and one son.
Kenwas an outdoor person who enjoyed fishing, wood cutting, camping and wild life watching. He was a life long gun enthusiast and loved hunting, shooting targets and hand loading. Ken was very well read in regard to fire arms and was always ready to share his knowledge with a friend.
In the early 1960's Ken was involved in the building and painting of stock cars, and drove briefly at the local track. He was a talented musician, and performed in the area night spots for over 30 years. He cared very much for his family and was always close to the children and their families and entertained them with funny antidotes. He was a long time member of the NRA and former member of the La Grande Racing Association and Blue Mtn. Two-Wheelers Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of La Grande; son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie McLaughlin of Salem; daughters and their spouses, Karen and Butch Brown of Union, chris and David Giess of La Grande, Kathy and Jon Schmidt of Milton-Freewater and Sonja Rogers, also of Milton-Freewater; eleven grandchildren and their spouses; nineteen great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Ken's memory be made to the GRH Hospice or the NRA in care of Daniels~Knopp, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, OR 97850.
