Kenneth Glenn Nice

August 13, 1944 — April 27, 2011

Kenneth Glenn Nice, 66, formerly of La Grande, died April 27 at his home in Richfield, Idaho. At his request, no public memorial service will be held. The VFW in Shoshone, Idaho, will handle arrangements for burial at sea.

He was born Aug. 13, 1944, to Glenn O. Nice and Jeana Mae Nice in La Grande.

As a teenager, Ken helped his grandparents work the Nice homestead in North Powder. He graduated from La Grande High School after going to state for the wrestling team.

Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and had a distinguished 20-year naval career on nuclear submarines. He retired with the rank of Master Chief in 1983.

After retirement, he volunteered his services as a firefighter and an emergency medical responder. He also taught safe driving classes for AARP.

In his free time, he enjoyed working in his woodshop and building model ships.

Ken is survived by his wife, Connie Nice; brother, James Nice; four biological children, Mary Price, Carol Nave, Glen Nice and Sarah Reece; nine step-children, Delbert Stiffler, Sherry Prestige, Melody Willis, Jeff Stiffler, Belinda Hall, Carrie Carreon, Todd Stiffler, Irene Call and Michelle Irish; as well as a combined total of 38 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
