Kenda Lynn (Pyle Carter) Shultz, 63, of Canby, died Sept. 24 as a result of a house fire in Sumpter.
A memorial service begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 29, at the Ambridge Event Center in Portland. A second service begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Elks Club in Pendleton. Burial will be at the Island City Cemetery.
Kenda was born Nov. 7, 1944, to Kenneth Eugene Pyle and Jessie Geneieve Barker in Detroit, Mich. She attended Bowling Green University in Ohio and earned a degree in teaching and Masonic music. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married in Michigan on Oct. 31, 1964, then later married Clinton Shultz Nov. 26, 1988, in Long Beach, Wash.
Kenda worked as a teacher, real estate agent, registered nurse (qualified at PCC Oregon) and a nursing home surveyor for the state of Oregon. She enjoyed mountain climbing, camping and hiking.
Kenda was a member of the Elks Club, Eastern Star, Mazamas and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was baptized and confirmed Episcopalian.
Survivors include father, Kenneth Pyle of Michigan; sister, Elizabeth Betty Seifert of Rochester Hills, Mich.; son, Paul Carter of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Elizabeth Carter of Vancouver; step daughters, Michelle Shultz and Heather Clarke, both of London; and one grandson.
