Kayla was born on April 21, 1998, the precious daughter of Trevor and Traci Irving in Arcadia, California. The family moved to College Place in August of 1998. When she was 6 months of age she was diagnosed with Krabbe's Disease, also called Globoid-Cell Leukodystrophy, a rare and fatal genetic disorder. The specialists said that she would be lucky to make her first birthday and she just recently celebrated her fifth.
Kayla was a very special little girl, whose nickname was "Sugars", inspired many families to spend quality time together. She touched the lives of all she came in contact with. She loved kisses and cuddling and spending time in warm water and massages. She loved listening to music and stories lovingly read to her by her family. Her dog, Maggie, was a special joy for her. Although her life was short, she was a gift from God and she brought family and friends together and was an inspiration of faith to all.
Survivors include her parents, Trevor and Traci Irving of College Place, Grandparents, Russell and Juanita Irving; Great Grandparents, Walter and Mary Melashenko; aunts and uncles, Lynette and Nathan Cootz, Madalyn and Edward Allen, Diane and Christopher Bade, Debi and Roger Akers, Shelly and William Leary; Judy and Ed Zine and Steve and Diane Simmons; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents, William E. and Clarene E. Simmons and two cousins.
Those who wish may make contributions in Kayla's memory to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or Hunter's Hope Foundation in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
