Kathleen Violet Alford, age 82, of La Grande, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at a local care facility. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Father Hank Albrecht officiating. Private interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mrs. Alford was born on September 6, 1922, the daughter of John and Hazel (Waldo) Mullikin in Roseburg, Oregon. She married Robert Alford in 1939 in Weiser, Idaho. They lived in Huntington until the 1940's when they moved to La Grande. She worked as a nurse for St. Joseph Hospital and Grande Ronde Hospital. After the death of her daughter in 1973 she raised her daughter's children, Susan Ruth and Robert Ingram, as her own.
Mrs. Alford was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Lady Fireman of the Union Pacific Railroad, the VFW Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star and the investment club. Mrs. Alford was a talented artist and musician and played the violin and the piano. She loved crocheting and her family and friends were the most important part of her life.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Shirley Alford of Pendleton; grandchildren, Susan Ruth of Pendleton, Robert Ingram of La Grande, Richard Alford of Bothel, Washington, Patrick Alford of Granit Falls, Nancy Iwakiri of Boise, Idaho, Paul Chapman of Issaquah, Washington and Dana Cain of Traverse City, Michigan; great grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler Anne and Mikena Ruth, Sierra, Chole and Devin Ingram, Cory Alford and Jessica and Brandon Le; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Sherry Alford Ingram, husband, Robert Alford and great granddaughter, Katie Ruth.
