Karla Gemaehlich Holdun

June 19, 1960 — October 27, 2005

Karla Holdun, age 45, of Salem and formerly of La Grande died October 27, 2005 of natural causes. A celebration of life will begin at 11 am Saturday at Cascade High School in Turner. Burial will be at the Lee Mission Cemetery in Salem.

Mrs. Holdun was born June 19, 1960 to Pat and Duane Gemaehlich in Portland. She attended La Grande High School and graduated from the University of Oregon. She taught at Terrebonne and Aumsville elementary schools before earning a master's degree in counseling from Lewis and Clark College.

She was active in the fight against breast cancer and organized the Celebrate the Moment Team to raise funds for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She enjoyed jazzercise, walking with friends, trips to the beach, her work and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband and children, Jim Holdun, Britta and Andrew, all of Salem; her parents; sisters, Lori, Lisa and Debbie and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to a memorial fund at Aumsville Elementary School in care of Barrick Funeral Home, 205 Church Street, SE, Salem, Oregon 97301.
