June Marie Spray, age 76, of Island City, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.
A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Committal and interment will follow at the Union Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mrs. Spray was born on May 8, 1926, the daughter of Chester and Emily Ann (Smith) Williams in Duffield, Virginia. When she was ten years of age the family moved to Weiser, Idaho where she graduated from high school. During World War II she went to Portland and painted ships. On July 10, 1946 she married Gerald Spray in Boise, Idaho and they made their home in La Grande. They owned and operated Willow Grocery for thirteen years and June also worked as a checker for Safeway until retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Spray enjoyed fishing and camping, playing Bingo, slot machines and the dog races in Portland. She loved spending time with her family and was always cooking for them. She was also an avid animal lover.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Spray of Island City; son and daughter-in-law, Rick & Shirley Spray of La Grande; grandchildren, Jackie Spray, Scott and Vonda Spray, Johnny Spray and Jennifer Spray; great grandchildren, Kendra, Riley and Trever "Hopper" Spray; brother and sister-in-law, James & Sheryl Williams of Boise; sister-in-law and her husband, Virginia & Dick Satterlee; and other relatives and friends. Her son, Gerald L. Spray and a brother, F.C. Williams preceded her in death.
