Judith N. Layng, age 67, of La Grande died June 7, 2004 at the Grande Ronde Hospital of natural causes. A celebration of life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the home of Ted and Debbie Blaylock, 10302 S. Grandview, Island City. A private family burial will be in the Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Layng was born October 27, 1936 to Harold and Ruth Philips Bacon in Portland. The family lived in Sheridan and Sisters. She attended high school in Redmond and married Charles Blaylock on December 5, 1954. After a divorce she married Melvin Layng on November 5, 1966 in Winnemucca, Nevada. The couple moved to La Grande in 1967 where she worked as head cook at Hot Lake and at the truck stop, and as an accountant for businesses around town.

She enjoyed flowers, puzzles, sewing, oil painting, fishing, hunting for arrowheads, picking berries and mushrooms and the outdoors. She will be remembered as adventurous. She was a member of the home extension group, a 4-H leader and a past member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Ted and Debbie Blaylock of La Grande, Loralee and Greg Brugato of Boise and Rick and Cheryl Blaylock of Palmer, Alaska; stepchildren and their spouses, Suzette and Buck Schaffer of La Grande, Bruce and Sherrie Layng of Tonasket, Washington and Kevin and Sarah Layng of Bremerton, Washington; a twin sister and her husband, Janet and Robert Staley of La Grande; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and other relatives. An infant son, Rodney, a brother and a sister all died earlier. Memorials may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association in La Grande.
