Judie Lee Carlson

August 27, 1925 — January 30, 2019

Judie Lee Carlson was born to Lee, Tae Yong and Chin, Kwan Wol on Aug 27, 1925 in Yousan-ri, Kyunggi-do province of Seoul, Korea.  She went to her heavenly father on Jan 30, 2019.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande (not at the Island City Cemetery as previously printed).

Judie saw many things in her life time.  During the war, she lost her brother and father.  She had a son Maw Tae David Frank Lee Carlson in 1953 with David Villareal.  She lost a daughter from the same union when she was 1 ½ years old. Her mother helped to raise her son until she married Robert Frank Carlson in 1963 who adopted her son.  They moved to Hawaii in 1966 and became US citizens in 1968. After the dissolution of marriage to Robert Carlson in 1970, Judie decided to remain in Hawaii with her son. This was the most important thing to her as she wanted her son Maw Tae Frank to have a better life.

She lived some years in Guam where she was successful in a business partnership.  When she was expecting her first grandchild in 1980, she moved to La Grande, OR where she resided until her death.

Judie worked as an in-home caregiver.  She was very proud of her son and followed his music career. Her face would light up as she enjoyed time with her 4 grandchildren.  She faithfully read her bible and had a very strong faith in God and his son Jesus Christ.

She got a taste of home while spending time with her friends from Korea who shared her language, culture, and food.

Judie loved flowers and bright colors and had a fondness for kittens.

She is survived by her son Frank Carlson and Kellie of Baker City, grandchildren Tailee and Amos Lee of Eagle, ID, Haaven and Selina Carlson of La Grande, OR, Shilo and Cody Costi of La Grande, OR and Montana Carlson of Beaverton, OR, and their mother Nikki Carlson, and Dan of La Grande, OR and 10 great grandchildren.
