Juanita Marie Stockhoff Ramey

Juanita Marie Stockhoff Ramey, age 97, of La Grande and Wallowa Lake, died at her Wallowa Lake home on August 21, 2012.

Juanita was born on May 23, 1915 near Blue Mound, Kansas to Henry George and Lula "Cordelia" (Nickelson) Stockoff. She attended school in Kansas and Oregon. She graduated from Corvallis High School and the Oregon Normal School (Western State University) in Monmouth, Oregon. She married C.W. "Pete" Ramey on July 9, 1934 and they spent four years in Sweet Home where Pete managed a grocery store, after which they returned to the family dairy farm in Monmouth. In 1940 the Government built Camp Adair in the area and the family was forced to relocate to a farm near McMinnville. In 1942, the family purchased the Starkey Ranch in Eastern Oregon where they lived for two years before moving onto the current family farm in La Grande where they continued to live.

Juanita lived a happy and busy farm life, taught school at Alicel for seven years and later opened an Antique Shop. She belonged to many organizations including the Alpha Epsilon sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, antiquing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judi Beatrice Harsin and husband, Ron and Sharon Anne Bolen; grandchildren, Pamela Marie Bolen, Fallie Elizabeth (Bolen)Calder, Michael Rote Bolen, Peter Ramey Harsin and Susan Belle (Bolen)Hughes; 11 great grandchildren, Sara M. Jones, Christopher B. Jones, J. Colton Hughes, Erin M. Bolen, Haley C.A. Bolen, Brooke E. Bolen, Michael V.G. Bolen, Jesse T. Wolf, William K. Calder, Kailee A. Calder and Ashley M. Calder, two great great grandchildren, Eli B. Jones and Cassidy R. M. Stanley-Bolen; sister-in-law, Maxine Stockhoff; many cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family in Kansas and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete of 62 years; a sister, Beatrice Ward; a brother, Gene Stockhoff; grandsons, Steven Ramey Harsin and Varney Gene Bolen; and great granddaughter, Kailee Gene Bolen.

A memorial service will be held on September 15 at 11:00am at the Presbyterian Church in La Grande. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
