Juanita N. Hanson, age 83, of Elgin, died May 16, 2012 at her home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wallowa Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Juanita was born on April 17, 1929, the daughter of William and Eva (Scribner) Norton in Nampa, Idaho. She married Donald A. Hanson on August 16, 1946 in Canyon City. They lived in Maxville and later moved to Wallowa. They moved to La Grande in 1951 and later to Imbler and Summerville. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1992. She moved to Elgin in 2007.
Juanita worked as an OB nurse for many years, first at St. Joseph's Hospital and when it closed she went to work for the Grande Ronde Hospital until retiring in the late 1980's. She then became a caregiver. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Enterprise and the La Grande Eagles. She enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Fran and Bruce Ellis of La Grande; Donna and Larry Hays of Elgin and Chris and Wanda Hanson of Enterprise; sister, Agnes Roberts of Enterprise; brother, Clarence Norton of Lostine; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, with one on the way; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Eva Norton, sisters, Dorothy Britton, Marge Fincher and Mary Horton; brother Dick Norton and daughter, Sharon Purcell.
