Joseph "Joe" Scott

February 16, 1912 — August 28, 2004

Joseph "Joe" Scott, age 92, of La Grande and formerly of Summerville, died, Saturday, August 28, 2004 at a local care center. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery with Pastor Bill Miller of the Valley Fellowship Church officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Joseph "Joe" Scott was born on February 16, 1912, the son of Joe and Myrtle (Hays) Scott in Wray, Colorado. Joe was raised in Pueblo, Colorado and later moved to Willow Springs, Missouri where he met Vinnie ( Collins) and together the couple was married in 1931. They lived for short periods of time in Arizona and New Mexico before settling in the Grande Ronde Valley in 1937. He worked in sawmills and farming for most of his life. Joe was self taught and was a very versatile person. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children and their spouses; Evelyn and Chuck Pollard of Island City, Joe Lee and Gay Scott of Island City, James "Mike" and Shirley Scott of Summerville, Louise and Mick Houtz of Baker City, Oregon and Joyce and Roddy Campbell of Summerville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; three Great Great- Grandchildren; brother Rex Scott of Sandy, Oregon and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vinnie Scott; two sisters and two brothers and one grandchild.
