John Philip Suydam

November 29, 1949 — August 12, 2004

John Philip Suydam, age 54, of Newport News, Virginia and formerly of La Grande died Thursday, August 12, 2004 of natural causes. Services will be in Abingdon, Illinois.

Mr. Suydam was born on November 29, 1949 to William "Mike" and Muriel Irons Suydam in Galesburg, Illinois. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. and later taught music there. He was also a music critic for the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper and played piano one summer for the St. Louis Municipal Orchestra. He moved to La Grande in 2001 where he worked at the Electronic Resource Center in Pierce Library at Eastern Oregon University. He recently moved to Newport News.

Survivors include his mother of Galesburg; a sister and her husband, Tina and Randy Hartz of Abingdon; and other relatives.
