John Francis Shepherd

July 28, 1939 — August 8, 2006

John Francis Shepherd, 67, died August 8, 2006 at his home after a long struggle with cancer. He was born in La Grande August 28, 1939, the older of two children to John and Francis May (Furgason) Shepherd. He graduated high school in Portland and after high school, he served in the Army from 1958 until 1962, stationed in Germany. He moved to Baker, and settled in The Dalles in 1971.

A journeyman lineman, he married Marie Fay Mattison on April 13, 1963, in La Grande. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Electrician's Union Local 125 IBEW, and enjoyed going to Eastern Oregon each year elk hunting with friends and family, and spending time with his grandchildren. If he wasn't hunting, he spent his spare time fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie Shepherd of The Dalles; son, Timothy P. and Shelly Shepherd of Gladstone; daughters, Susanne L. Frantz of Boyd and Tonya M. Shepherd of The Dalles; sister, Anne Shepherd; five grandchildren; aunt and uncle, Jack and Lois Furgason; cousin, Cherie Furgason, numerous other cousins and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Uncle, Dempsey Furgason, and son-in-law, Ed Frantz.

A viewing visitation will be from 10 am until 12:30 pm Monday at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home and funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1220 W. 10th Street, with graveside services following at the IOOF 3 mile cemetery.
