John Opp

John Opp, 101, of La Grande died Oct. 19 at a local care center. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Chapel, 902 S. Main St. in Milton-Freewater.

Mr. Opp was born July 4, 1903, to John and Rosina Klipfel Opp in Gluckstahl, Russia. The family homesteaded in a sod house in North Dakota. On June 12, 1930, he married Alice Aichele in Fessenden, N.D., and they moved to Milton-Freewater. He worked for farmers and fruit growers and the couple both worked for Mojonnier and Sons and the Hamada Brothers greenhouses. They moved to La Grande in 1999 to be near family.

survivors include his wife of La Grande; a daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Orville Miller of La Grande; a sister, Ernestine Krantz of Garrison, N.D.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and other relatives.
