John William Hynd

John William Hynd, 70, of Pendleton and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 17 in Yuma, Ariz.

John was born Sept 17, 1938, to Beaulah and Ewing Hynd of Ukiah. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1956. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1960, he served 21 years as an Army officer, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1981.

The family then returned to Oregon, living in La Grande, Ukiah and Pendleton. In recent years, he wintered in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Majken Bauer Hynd; three daughters, Martha Frasier of La Grande, Mary Reznicek of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Ellen Moll of Beaverton; and 10 grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to any charity.
