John J. Evers, age 64, of La Grande, died Thursday, January 15, 2004 at his home in La Grande. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Sarah Morningstar Stanton officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.
Mr. Evers was born on August 1, 1939, the son of Joseph and Frances (Godfrey) Evers in La Grande. He grew up in the Grande Ronde Valley and was a member of the Oregon National Guard. He worked as landscape supervisor for Eastern Oregon University until his retirement in 2001. On September 27, 1979 he married Becky Beickel. He was a member of the Urban Forest Committee, a FFA Honorary Member, had a State FFA degree, was a 4-H volunteer and attended a national 4-H Congress in Chicago. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching and old tractors. He loved his animals, landscaping and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Evers of La Grande; children, Joe Evers of Portland, Jack and Shannon Evers of Camp Pendleton, California and Casey and Tom Klundby of Fort Riley, Kansas; grandchildren, Jordon, Shaylee and Cade; brother, Jim Evers of La Grande; sister, Mary Gray of Sisters, Oregon and other relatives and friends.
