John Thomas Dean, age 22, of Kennewick, Washington and formerly of La Grande, died May 27, 2005 in a highway accident on Cabbage Hill. The funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Powder Valley High School in North Powder. Burial will follow at the Haines Cemetery.
Mr. Dean was born February 25, 1983, to Jerry and Eydie Dean in Richland, Washington. He attended grade-school in Imbler and in Ketchikan, Alaska, the family moved to North Powder where he graduated from high school. At Powder Valley School he was a member of FFA and played football. He began an apprenticeship as a pipefitter last fall in Pasco, Washington. He was good at mechanics and had a quiet, quick wit. He brought out the best in others. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, camping, water sports, snowmobiling and motorcycles. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters' Local 598 in Pasco.
Survivors include his financee, Kaela Curtis of Baker City; his parents of Pasco; a brother, Levi Dean of Kennewick; grandparents, Gene and Nicki Hiner of North Powder and Jesse and Ruth Hall of Grandview, Washington and great grandparents, George and Ruth Deal of North Powder; aunts and uncles, Joe and Jeff Dean, Lori El-Hajj and Karen Dean, Diehl and Jessica Hiner, Doug and Deanna Forman, Kenny and Joan Brickey and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to a high school memorial fund in care of Gene Hiner, PO Box 109, North Powder, Oregon 97867.
