John Joseph Clever

November 26, 1942 — August 10, 2010

John Joseph Clever, 67, of Cove, died Aug. 10 at a hospital in Boise. His memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Cove Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing for family and friends will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

John was born Nov. 26, 1942, to Joseph Clarence and Ruth (Costigan) Clever in Lackawanna, N.Y. He received a master's degree in computer science, and enjoyed a 21-year Army military career in counter intelligence and computer science, achieving the rank of chief warrant officer 4. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal, two medals for Meritorious Service, an Army Commendation Medal and various other awards and ribbons.

On Aug. 12, 1994, John married his third wife, Patsy Lee Jarvis Rivera, in Albuquerque, N.M. After retiring from worldwide living and experiences, John and Patsy moved to Cove where John used his time for "cold case" research and mentoring local young women and men who had rough starts in life. Those who knew John say they admired his candor, sense of humor, rigorous honesty and his sense of duty, respect and honor for the American constitutional processes and values.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kathleen and her husband, Joe Scott, of La Grande and Deanna Jacobs of Freeland, Md.; three brothers and their families, Robert Clever of New York, Tom Clever of Texas and Michael Clever of Fayetteville, N.C.; and sons, Ray Rivera and his wife, Peijie Mao, of Seaside, Calif., Tony Rivera and his wife, Denise Farrer, of Seattle, and Tom White of Cove and his fiancée, Kristina Nicely, of Walla Walla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
