Joel Charles "Jerry" Bingner, 82, of La Grande, died Dec. 14 at his home.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Dec. 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in
La Grande. Burial will be private.
Joel was born May 25, 1926, to Charles Webster Bingner and Vera Grace Joel in La Grande. He lived in La Grande his entire life. He met and married Winifred Deanne Stanbery in 1948, and operated Joel's Grocery for 31 years. He had also served in the Navy as a signalman.
He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, Shriners, York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was very active in hunting, fishing, skiing and black powder shooting. Joel was on the board of New Day Enterprises. He was active as a volunteer at the senior center, and involved with the Old Time Fiddlers Festival at Emigrant Springs State Park. For being so active, he still loved spending time with his family.
Joel is survived by his children, David and his wife, Jackie Bingner, of La Grande, Sue and her husband, Mike Storaasli, of Clark Fork, Idaho, Becky and her husband, Ron Poh of Amity, John and his wife, Eileen Bingner of Hillsboro; special friend, Dianne Cessna of La Grande; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister Janet Lyman, parents and his wife.
