Kenneth Joseph "Joe" Hart, Jr. age 71, died at his home in La Grande on Saturday, October 14.

A graveside service will begin at 2:00 Wednesday, Oct 18 at the Island City Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Navy, the High Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4060 and the Patriot Guard Riders of the American Legion Post #43.

For friends who wish viewing will be from 10 until noon on Wednesday at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.

Joe was born on March 17, 1946, the son of Kenneth Joseph, Sr. and Doris Pelser Hart in La Grande. He was raised by his mother and step father, Lamon Falk. He was educated in La Grande before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1963. He started on submarines but learned it wasn't a good fit so he transferred to ships. After 21 years he was honorably discharged and retired in 1984. On October 23, 1986 he was married to Donna Wilson in La Grande. Joe worked for the Pony Soldier Motor Inn in repair and maintenance and later sold Farmers Insurance. He and Donna had a Video and Deli in Cove and he owned Winterhawk where he made and sold tents. They bought and operated JD's Market from 1998 to 2002.

Joe enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. At the time of his death he was the commander of High Valley Post #4060 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Union.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of La Grande; children, Kenneth Bradley Hart of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Tisha Butler of Portland, Brenda Sue Hart of Saratoga, California, Todd Silcox of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; mother, Doris Falk of La Grande and other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by a brother Terry Lee Hart and his step father, Lamon Falk.
